Season 2018 of SMP F4 NEZ Championship will kick off this weekend at Smolensk Ring in Russia. On Friday drivers had two free practice sessions giving them a glimpse of what’s ahead this weekend.

Warm weather in Smolensk is warming the track as well as the drivers with temperature of 26 degrees. However Saturday and Sunday will bring a possibility of rain and even thunder. Smolensk Ring alone is a challenging track for the young drivers, so we can expect to see some hustle during the races on weekend especially if the weather conditions change dramatically.

Qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Two of the three races will be driven on Saturday leaving one final race for Sunday. In total of 12 drivers join the grid for the first race weekend of the season.

Friday’s first free practice session was a battle of two as Swedish Isac Blomqvist scored the best time with a narrow 0,001 margin to Dutch Freek Schothorst. Top two guys were followed by Finnish duo Jesse Salmenautio and Konsta Lappalainen.

Konsta Lappalainen from Finland mastered the second free practice session with a 0,055 gap to Blomqvist. Russian drivers Michael Belov and Ivan Berets had the third and the fourth best times on the second warm up.

The first qualifying session will take place on Saturday at 9.45 followed by two races at 13.45 and 17.15. The second qualifying is on Sunday at 9.40 and the final race of the weekend at 13.45.
