Martin Laur is the young Team Principal of Estonian team ALM Motorsport. After a career in Motorsport driving Formula Renault, F3 and touring cars, the Estonian launched his squad. After four years of existence, the team who was involved in Formula Renault Scandic and Touring Cars has now stepped up to the 2017 SMP F4 NEZ Championship certified by FIA.

Martin, it’s your first season in the SMP F4 NEZ championship, how is it going so far?
We have had some ups and downs, even though we are probably improving all the time. We are hoping for the best and hopefully the results will be better in the second part of the season.

What decided you to join the Series?
It was a really great option to get into the Series. You don’t have to have your own logistics, to have trucks or catering, as the series provide it for you. So basically you just need the cars and drivers. Everything is easier, and more cost-effective for the teams. This was the main reason.
Besides, I like the series and the people involved. It is a much more professional environment. The single-operation is changing the way we approach the sports. No set-ups spying or big arguments with technical aspects as the cars are all the same. It also means that the drivers can focus on their work and driving-style, they are much better prepared mentally.

You are an Estonian team, bringing 2 Estonian drivers in the Championship, on an Estonian event; do you think F4 NEZ is good way to promote your country as well?
Yes absolutely. We have such many different countries in the SMP F4 NEZ Championship, so yes definitely; it’s a big thing for Estonia. The Series is an FIA championship and I guess that this round in auto24ring and the championship itself has brought a big interest from Estonia.

Sten Piirimagi set the fastest time in FP2, what do you think he can achieve this weekend?
I don’t want to put any pressure on him because he has so little experience in formula cars. But hopefully he can put it together and bring us a podium here in front of our home-crowd.

What are your expectations for this season and for the coming ones?
For the season we hope to get to the podium and close the gap to the leaders. For the next seasons, whether you are a team or a driver you want to win and make it to the top. So that’s what we are aiming for.
