Alexander Smolyar is the new Russian rocket of this third season in the SMP F4 NEZ Championship certified by FIA. At 15 years old only, the SMP Racing driver who competed in the high sphere of karting is now a strong contender of the Series. With 6 podiums after three rounds, Smolyar has the highest number of podium finish.

Hi Alexander, you have completed three rounds of the Championship now, what is your appraisal of this beginning of the season?

Alexander Smolyar: Lots of podiums, a third place in the championship it is a very good achievement for the beginning of the season, but it’s not enough to fight for the title. Now I need to win some races!

You have finished six times on the podium, but always P3. What do you think you have to improve to reach the top step in Parnu?

Alexander Smolyar: My main problem at the moment is the start. I was on pole in Sochi but didn’t win. With good starts it will be easier to break into the top on the first laps. And there will be more chances to finish P1. That will be my main focus for the coming rounds.

How would you rate your direct contenders, Christian Lundgaard, Xavier Lloveras and Nikita Volegov?

Alexander Smolyar: At the moment my rivals in the championship are very strong, I need to score more points to continue the fight for the championship. Nikita, Xavier and Tuomas have more experience. And they feel more confident with race starts. Christian had a very good start of the season as well, but I’m also improving race after race, so I am confident.

The first official test days of the season were in Parnu, how would you describe this circuit?

Alexander Smolyar: This track is much easier than Ahvenisto! I’m sure we’ll have very interesting races there. Lots of drivers know this track very well so I think the qualifying lap times will be very tight. And the pace in the races will be high. I’m ready to fight side-by-side for the win!

What is your best memory of these three first rounds so far?

Alexander Smolyar: First round in Sochi! My first pole in formula under the rain on F1 track…amazing! And of course two podiums there! Great emotions!
